179 Men Screened for Prostate Cancer at Pocono Raceway

There is something about a racetrack that pulls people together. At Pocono Raceway during NASCAR weekend, we found out that same energy can do something most people never expect at a sporting event. It can save a life.

We brought Man Cave Health to Pocono with one goal. Meet men where they already are, and make prostate cancer screening feel as natural as grabbing a seat before the green flag. By the end of the weekend, 179 men had gotten a free PSA test. That is 179 men who now have information they did not walk in with. That is 179 families who are part of this story, too.

Why we meet men where they are for prostate cancer screening

Most men don't skip prostate cancer screening because they don't care. They skip it because life gets in the way, because the doctor's office feels like a hassle, or because nobody ever made it easy. So we stopped waiting for men to come to us. We went to them.

The screening itself is simple. A free PSA test is a five minute blood draw that tells a man his PSA score. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men, and one in eight men will be diagnosed in his lifetime. Caught early, the survival rate is about 99 percent. That is why early detection is the entire game, and why a quick test at a race can matter so much.

The people who made it real

One of them is Ron Semanick, a Man Cave Health volunteer who knows this fight from the inside. Ron is a prostate cancer survivor who found his own diagnosis through routine PSA testing, then turned that experience into service. He has become a tireless ambassador for early detection, helping guide hundreds of men through the screening process at events like this one. When a man sitting down for his first test can talk to someone who has walked the road ahead of him, the fear drops.

We also had the honor of a visit from NASCAR Cup Series driver Michael McDowell, who stopped by to see the work up close. When someone with that kind of platform stands next to this mission, it tells every man watching that health is not separate from strength. Taking care of yourself is part of being whole, healthy, and powerful.

This is just one stop

Pocono is part of something much larger. We are building a movement that shows up in the places men already gather, from raceways to tailgates to barbershops to golf courses. Every event is a chance to reach men who have been historically and intentionally excluded from the care they deserve, and to do it in a way that feels welcoming instead of clinical. Because when a man gets screened, his partner worries a little less, his kids get more years with their father, and his community keeps a leader. Men's health has always been family health and community health.

To Pocono Raceway, Colton RV & Marine, our medical partners, the volunteers like Ron, and every man or person who got the men in their life to sit down and get screened, thank you. You made this real.

If you have not been screened, let this be your sign. Experts recommend starting the conversation about prostate cancer screening at age 45, and at 40 if you have a family history or are of African American descent. And if you know a man who has been putting it off, share this with him. The next 179 could include someone you love.

Man Cave Health is a nonprofit dedicated to men's health and the early detection of prostate cancer, meeting men where they are and building a culture where getting tested is just what strong men do. Learn more and find a free prostate cancer screening event at mancavehealth.org.
